Las obras de misericordia corporales son de suma importancia para la práctica de la fe católica. Están arraigados en las Escrituras y en la práctica constante de la iglesia. Animo a todos los seguidores de Jesús a practicar con frecuencia estos actos de caridad y compasión.

The corporal works of mercy are of utmost importance to the practice of the Catholic faith. They are rooted in Scripture and in the constant practice of the church. I encourage all followers of Jesus to practice these acts of charity and compassion often.

The film Cabrini will be released nationally on March 8, 2024. I have viewed it already, and I highly recommend it.

La Diócesis de San Ángelo fue una de las primeras en ordenar diáconos después de que el Concilio Vaticano Segundo restableciera el diaconado permanente. La primera ordenación de diáconos permanentes en la Diócesis de San Ángelo fue realizada por el Obispo Stephen A. Leven en agosto de 1976. Planeo ordenar nuestra clase de formación actual en 2026. Pronto comenzaremos a realizar sesiones informativas para aquellos que puedan ser llamados a formar la próxima clase, cuya ordenación diaconal se llevaría a cabo en 2029.

The Diocese of San Angelo was one of the first to ordain deacons after the permanent diaconate was restored by the Second Vatican Council. The first ordination of permanent deacons in the Diocese of San Angelo was by Bishop Stephen A. Leven in August of 1976. I plan to ordain our current formation class in 2026. We will soon begin conducting informational sessions for those who may be called to form the next class, whose diaconal ordination should take place in 2029.

On Dec. 18, 2023, the Vatican Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith published Fiducia Supplicans, a declaration on the pastoral meaning of blessings. Some media headlines misconstrued the document, claiming that it allows priests to endorse relationships that are not in accord with Scripture or traditional Catholic teaching. However, Fiducia Supplicans (FS) does not change any part of Catholic teaching about marriage or sexuality. Adultery is still a sin. Homosexual activity is still a sin.

With antisemitism on the rise across the United States, Bishop Michael Sis of San Angelo, Texas, took a public stance of solidarity with the Jewish community Dec. 13, participating in and speaking at an interfaith Hanukkah celebration he himself helped organize.
