Bishop Michael J. Sis has announced that he has appointed Very Rev. Joe Barbieri as the Episcopal Vicar for Priests, effective January 1, 2026. Father Barbieri will take on this responsibility along with his role as Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of San Angelo and Pastor of St. Therese Catholic Parish in Carlsbad.

Since June 4, 2017, Msgr. Larry Droll has been serving faithfully as the Vicar for Priests in the Diocese of San Angelo. The Vicar for Priests is largely responsible for promoting the well-being of the priests of the diocese as well as providing opportunities for their ongoing formation. He may also be entrusted with other duties delegated to him by the Bishop. The Vicar for Priests is assisted in his role by the Priestly Life and Formation Committee, which he chairs.
